A dental implant is a titanium metal rod, inserted into the jawbone and used to support a false tooth. In practice, both the false tooth and its supporting rod are known as ‘implants’.
Implants are a well-established dental treatment. With the right care over 95 per cent of modern implants should last for many years.
A small dental operation is conducted, using a simple local anaesthetic, to place the implant .
Additional sedation can be provided should you request it.
For complex cases our surgeon may employ a general anaesthetic if appropriate.
Whatever type of anaesthetic is used, you will feel no pain during your treatment, but you may feel some discomfort during the week after the surgery owing to having had stitches and the wound healing naturally.
