Gastric Balloon weight loss
What do I get out of it?
Patients can expect to lose between 2 and 3 Stones (15-20kg) during the 6 months whilst the balloon is inserted. Continuation of the good eating habits learned during the treatment period will lead to further weight loss and maintenance.
The Gastric balloon is ideal for those who are overweight but not obese (with a BMI 28-32) and are therefore not suitable for a surgical solution such as the Gastric Band.
The Gastric Balloon involves no surgery – merely the placement of a soft balloon into your stomach, whilst under sedation.
What is a Gastric Balloon?
A gastric balloon is a soft, silicone sack. It is inserted into the stomach via the mouth and filled with a sterile saline solution. The filled balloon takes up space in your stomach and leaves less room for large amounts of food or drink. The gastric balloon will give a feeling of being full more easily, or a lack of hunger which will help you to reduce your food intake so that you eat less and lose weight without surgery.
The gastric balloon, by restricting your food intake, helps you to adapt to the lifestyle changes needed in order to lose weight. It will stay in place for 6 months while you get used to a pattern of healthy eating to kick-start your weight loss. The gastric balloon will be removed after 6 months, by which time you should have lost 2 Stones or more and will be ready to continue your weight loss having trained your mind and body to require less food.
The gastric balloon gives you a head start in the race to lose weight. Good habits and a commitment to a healthy lifestyle once the balloon is removed will be needed to keep ahead in the race.

Diet & Lifestyle
For the first week following balloon insertion, you will be placed on a liquid only diet, with instructions to drink lots of water.
After the first week, we will recommend a meal programme including solids. We will provide information on your new diet and the necessary calorie restrictions. Our advice will cover proper nutrition, good eating habits, exercise and your emotional relationship with food.
For the next six months you should follow your specifically designed diet program. Sticking to this program will make it easier to gradually get used to the lifestyle changes needed to maintain weight loss later on when the gastric balloon has been removed.
The surgery would be at the well respected Adam Kalecinski clinic in Poland. A film of the clinic is on the first page of the website. It is a very short procedure. After the sedation (you will be asleep) you are asked to stay one night in the clinic and then 4 nights in our apartment rooms, We want to make sure you are really well before you travel back to the UK. You return to Poland after 6 months to have the balloon removed. Full telephone support is given at any point along your journey to a lighter, heather start in life.
