Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much weight will I lose?
Depending on how well you adapt to a healthier diet and lifestyle, you can lose in excess of 2 stones in the 6 month period.
Q: How does the Gastric Balloon get fitted?
You will be placed under sedation. The balloon is inserted through the mouth and then inflated with saline in the stomach to make you feel fuller more easily. It is important that you drink plenty of water in the days following insertion.
Q: And how is it removed?
After 6 months, the balloon is deflated by extracting the saline and then removed without surgery.
Q: Will I be able to feel the gastric balloon in my stomach?
There will be discomfort during the first few days as your body gets used to it. Once initial discomfort has passed, the gastric balloon provides a feeling of fullness.
Q: What side effects might I experience?
The first 10 - 21 days can be difficult. Feelings of stomach cramping, nausea and vomiting are typical for many patients and should be anticipated. Our doctor will offer advice (and possibly medication) to help you through this period
Q: What If I Become Pregnant?
We recommend that you discuss this directly with your doctor in order to offer you specific individual advice.
Q Will I feel sick?
We recommend a special diet which should reduce the change of you feeling sick while the balloon is in place. The diet should also help with weight loss. The balloon should also make you feel less hungry.
